The napkin project-it's not what you think!
Thanks to Brewton, Alabama artist Joy Odom, Handes of a Woman is proud to announce a collaborative, creative, how-to project. Joy read one of our posts and the next thing I knew there were 8 cotton napkins with a bit of lace on one corner and a very large fine linen table scarf with a pulled thread lace pattern on each end sitting on our coffee table! We were given free rein on what to do with it. For some reason I could not settle on remaking table linens and kept thinking instead about multi-media art; that's because of Andalusia, Alabama artist Amy Findley Bowers and her recent show.
Last May, at our Mother's Day pop-up, a 2yd piece of linen had been splatter painted with the some left over paint I had been using. We tossed around several ideas about how to use it, but nothing ever settled, so it has been sitting, lonely, in the studio.
And finally, my friend LaNell Bradley recently posted several fun and fancy tunic dresses that I absolutely loved. So:
Here is what we have on hand:
Here is the concept (cute, right?):
And here is the pattern we will use, Vogue v9335; we'll make the one with sleeves.
This will be our first real how-to series. We are going to take our time and post as we go; let's see what happens!
